About the Event

Caren Simpson McVicker likes to view her life as unfolding in three acts. Act one spanned growing up in Summit, moving to Baton Rouge in high school, and graduating from SMU in Dallas. Act two included reconnecting with and marrying her childhood friend, Joe McVicker, raising two children, and working as a communications consultant and technical writer.

Once her children left the nest, Caren embraced her act three by deciding to become a novelist. She will share her inspiring story with us.

Additionally, she will discuss her involvement in the documentary "An Arrow Shot Through Time." This documentary highlights a remarkable gesture from the Choctaw Nation, which sent $170 to support the Irish people during the potato famine in 1847, despite having recently endured their own Trail of Tears. The documentary has recently been selected as a finalist for a Roy W. Dean grant.
